Change Management – Success or Failure?
How do you implement a successful Change Management / Transformation Project?
- Ensure Owner / Director, Management and Workforce buy-in.
- Don’t call it a ‘Change Management’ or ‘Transformation’ Project.
- Call it a ‘Business Improvement’ Project because that is what we want to achieve.
How do we get Buy-In? Simply by being open and honest with everyone involved and informing them about:
- Why we need to change e.g. the business is underperforming and if we don’t do something it is very likely to close.
- The expected changes e.g.. improved processes to reduce the day-to-day complexity of operating the business, reduced rework, making it easier for our customers and clients to work with us, etc.
- What resources are being made available e.g. a Business Advisor is being brought in to complete a full Business Review which will identify specific profit improvement initiatives, and this person will report directly to me.
- Timeframes.
- Expected Outcomes e.g. Profit Improvements of $xxx from improved efficiency, reduced rework, better cashflow management, improved gross margins, potential restructuring, etc.
It is also important to make it crystal clear that this is not a headcount cutting exercise as the business cannot operate without a workforce.
